Our Work on Doctor Who

We were incredibly fortunate to be contracted by our good friend Chris Thompson, who was leading the new special effects work for the updated Blu-ray releases of Doctor Who Season 15.

In late 2023, Chris approached us with an exciting opportunity: to create 3D-printed molds for an updated version of the Rutan, the alien antagonist from Horror of Fang Rock. The Rutan, a shape-shifting, bioluminescent creature, was originally realized through practical effects in the 1977 serial. For the upcoming Blu-ray re-release, the goal was to enhance its on-screen presence while maintaining the charm of the original practical design.

Not only did we get to see our creation in action, but we also had the chance to help puppeteer the new Rutan, bringing it to life alongside our talented team members, AC and Ben Page.

Following our work on Horror of Fang Rock for the Season 15 Blu-ray, we were thrilled to be brought back in 2024 for another incredible project. Once again, our good friend Chris Thompson reached out to us to contribute to the updated special effects for the Blu-ray release of Doctor Who Season 25.

This time, we were tasked with creating new models for all four stories in the season, each requiring intricate work to bring classic designs to life with enhanced detail.

Remembrance of the Daleks

Imperial Mothership – A refined and detailed model of the massive Dalek command vessel.
Imperial Shuttlecraft – A precision-crafted replica of the Dalek transport.
Davros’ Escape Pod – A new version for smoother, cinematic effects.

The Happiness Patrol

We designed and built a new model for the Escape Shuttle, adding to the futuristic dystopian feel.

Silver Nemesis

A new model of the Cyber Warship was created to make the Cybermen’s presence even more formidable.

The Greatest Show on Earth

For this fan-favorite story, we modified a Character Options TARDIS toy to be used in updated shots, ensuring it blended seamlessly with the new effects.

We were honored to be on set, helping film these models alongside a fantastic team in Belfast. Seeing them in action, capturing perfect angles, and ensuring they fit into the Doctor Who universe was an unforgettable experience.
